April Critique Group, Whitney Johnson

Here is a Whitney’s piece for this month.

Eve as Madonna
gold leaf, oil, acrylic, and an acrylic transfer on paper
6×5 inches

Whitney offers this explanation: “Eve as Madonna and is my version of a traditional Madonna painting. The term Madonna means ‘a noble or important woman.'”

Thanks for participating this month, Whitney!

  1. I really enjoy the symbolism within this piece and think it’s a great subject for a painting. My only suggestion would be to make the leaves a little more subtle. I just think the brightness of the leaves distracts from the focus on the gold leaf. Great work!

  2. Your colors have always intrigued me. I remember when you saw some fall colors on campus and came into the studio on fire wanting to replicate what you had seen. Do you feel like living in Cali has affected your color choices at all?
